google maps -- complete!

Hello All! Ross and I just finished the google maps portion of the Wide Angle Youth Media project. We actually ended up creating two versions. #1 is what we had originally, but we decided to create another map based on an entirely different format. This can be seen in #2.

1) http://students.goucher.edu/rosha001/api

2) http://students.goucher.edu/rosha001/api/map.html

We're totally partial to #2 because we find it more user-friendly and easier to understand in general. We just emailed Gin to inform her of these two options and will wait for her decision on what to do next.

Check out the links and let us know what you think!

Counting Down

As the festival nears, we move closer to the edge of our seats. Everyone here at goucher is excited about April 25th. We look forward to seeing the turn out of our work. And to see the culmination of this remarkable project. We hope to see you all at Centerstage on April 25th at 8pm!!

Super!

Today, we talked to representatives from Towson and Hopkins and we hope to hear back from the rest of the neighboring colleges very soon, as we plan to post flyers around all the college campuses to get college kids to come out to the Festival!

google mapping

i am working on the google map portion of this wide angle youth media project. ross and i have been compiling data and organizing it in a way that shows each artists general location, what type of media they are submitting to the festival, the title of each piece, etc. so far, we have submitted a test page to gin for review. based on her feedback, we have a little bit to tweak but have achieved exactly what we anticipated initially. there is a tremendous amount of code involved, so the process has and will continue to take a significant amount of time. we are currently working on the coding portion, locating specific gps coordinates, and making the push-pin location pinpoints coordinate colors to the various forms of media they represent (poem, performance, visual, audio, song, etc.).

Goucher College and Wide Angle Media

Goucher College and Wide Angle Media have teamed up to benefit one another. For Wide Angle's Who Are You? Youth Media Festival, Goucher Collge students in Professor Michael Koch's Advanced Public Relations class have agreed to start their final porject early. Originally we, the students were supposed to end our semester with a final project. The we got word that Wide Angle wanted to Collaborate with us to produce better public relations for the company. We jumped at the oppurtunity and are now working and doing the PR for the Who Are You? Festival. As a team of ten, we split up into different groups to cover all oppurtunities to make this event publicisized. Some students are working with social networking sites such as twitter and facebook. Other students are writing and distributing press releases. One group is working on producing a website which maps out all of the participating institutions in Baltimore. The students will be at the festival on Saturday, April 25th to see what the product of all of their hard work will be like. Check out the links above to learn more!
